Sir,
I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury your letter of the 26th ultimo (52204), transmitting copy of a letter from the Governor of Hong Kong dated the 30th September last, relative to statements of account between the Disconto Gesellschaft and the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank.
In reply I am to request you to inform Mr. Secretary Bonar Law that My Lords understand from the Controller of the British Establishment of Direction der Disconto Gesellschaft that no letters have been sent, either direct or through the medium of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in Hong Kong, to the Shanghai Branch of the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank, since the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation returned, in a letter of the 20th August last, the seven letters previously sent to them for transmission to various Branches in China
of the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank.
Any other letters or statements addressed to the
Shanghai Office of the Deutsch-Asiatische Bank at present
in the possession of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation at Hong Kong might be returned to the Disconto- Gesellschaft, London,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
